OUR STORY

With a twenty-one-year record of impact, we are committed to opening doors of access for Detroit’s entrepreneurs.

We are Wayne State’s Entrepreneurship Hub.

TechTown was founded to support Wayne State University’s tech startups and quickly evolved to include all types of small businesses and entrepreneurs in Detroit, with the goal of driving economic revitalization and creating equitable opportunities for residents. 

25 years later, we operate out of a five-story building which hosts coworking spaces, city-wide events, and local businesses integral to Detroit communities. TechTown partners closely with Wayne State’s Division of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development to spur business growth in Midtown and beyond.

Where it all began...

2000

A joint partnership was formed between Wayne State Univiersty, Henry Ford Health System and General Motors.

Moving In

2004

Established ourselves within the Albert Khan building as a non-pofit aimed at tech-based start-up support,

We expadned our scope of impact to also include resources for non-tech businesses.

We envision a meaningful and equitable revitalization of Detroit through the launch and sustainable growth of tech startups and small businesses that create new jobs, generate revenue, and strengthen neighborhoods.
